This advanced-level course is designed for certified cave divers who want to push their skills to the limit. The TDI Full Cave Diver Course teaches advanced techniques needed to explore complex cave systems with confidence, precision, and safety. It’s the final step in the TDI overhead environment training path.

Phase 1: Knowledge & Planning
Students begin with eLearning or a classroom review of cave diving policy, gas matching, psychological aspects, communication, gear setup, and problem-solving strategies.

Phase 2: Skill Training in Real Caves
Across 8 dives at 3 different cave sites, students practice guideline handling, stress management, propulsion techniques, and backup navigation. Exercises include jump/gap reels, lost line and lost diver drills, air-sharing, and light failures—all under instructor supervision.

Simple, supportive learning
Students receive personal feedback and progress at their own pace. Each dive builds on the last, refining control, confidence, and awareness.

How many dives do you need for cave diving?

TDI splits cave diving education into three progressive steps: Cavern Diver, Intro to Cave, and Full Cave. To begin cavern training, you must be at least 18 years old (or 15 with parental consent), have an Open Water certification, and log at least 25 dives.

Cave diving is a technical and structured activity that requires training and discipline—but that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding. With the right instruction, divers gain precise control, strong teamwork habits, and access to breathtaking underwater caves that very few people ever get to explore. It’s a challenge that transforms you into a more skilled, confident diver.

Yes. To enroll in Full Cave Diver training, you must first complete the Cavern Diver and Intro to Cave courses. Each level builds vital safety and navigation skills for cave diving.

The course runs over 4 full training days and includes 8 guided cave dives, with skill development, drills, and debriefings at each site.
The course is conducted in some of the world’s most famous cave diving locations in Florida and Mexico. Depending on the season and student goals, training may take place in systems like Ginnie Springs, Peacock Springs, or the stunning cenotes of the Riviera Maya.
Yes, the TDI Full Cave Diver certification is internationally recognized and accepted by dive operators and instructors around the world.
You’ll need a full cave diving setup including long hose regulators, three lights, reels, cutting tools, backup mask, guideline markers, and more. See the Requirements section for full details or ask about rental options available on site.
